Position Summary

 The Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller will support the Controller in assisting in managing accounting and finance operations within a manufacturing environment. This includes the production of financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. The Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller will also enhance the accuracy of the company reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  The Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller supports the Controller in collaborating with various departments to ensure efficient financial operations and accurate reporting. 

Key interactions include:

  • Collaborating with Operations Team to gain insights into production costs, inventory management, and cost-control strategies
  • Collaborating with Sales & Marketing Team to forecast sales, manage budgets, and analyze the financial impacts of marketing initiatives 
  • Collaborating with Human Resources Team on payroll, benefits, and other employee-related expenses to ensure accurate financial allocation
  • Collaborating with Executive Management in delivering financial insights and reports to support informed strategic decision-making 

The Sr. Accountant/Assistant Controller will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Work with the business Controller to coordinate the preparation of regularity reporting
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist with overseeing the operations for the accounting department, including the design of an organization structure adequate for achieving the department goals and objectives
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies 
  • Ensure that required dept payments are made on a timely basis
  • Serve as back-up to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable 
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial information
  • Work with business Controller in implementing and monitoring compliance with internal controls and company policies
  • Completes external audit by analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors
  • Review weekly payroll and approve before payroll processing
  • Submit company monthly insurance billing reporting 
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Insures employees are properly trained in their position and additional positions as applies
  • Establishes an environment that is conducive to collaboration and teamwork, promotes positive employee relations and takes steps to prevent or diffuse conflicts
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience 
  • Experience in public accounting or a corporate accounting environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards 
  • Has worked in a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliant environment
  • Experience in a Manufacturing environment highly desirable
  • Experience with Cost Accounting such as working with costed bills of material, understands labor absorption, and understands Variable Overhead Absorption a plus!
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborative in a team environment 
  • Flexible, assertive, team player who is willing to help wherever needed to achieve company goals
  • Must have ability to lead by example

  • Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Proven financial and accounting technical skills and business savvy
